Will you be the first in your family to attend a college or university that is located in the United States? If the answer to that question is ‘yes’, you and your family should strongly consider attending the 3rd Annual D211 First Generation College Symposium! This event is held at Palatine High School and will take place on Wednesday, September 27th beginning at 6:30 pm and concluding around 8:45 pm. This is NOT a college fair. We will have a series of short 20 minute information sessions on a variety of topics depending on what year in school you are. For example, all students will hear information regarding the financial aid process. Freshmen and sophomores will attend a session titled, ‘Identifying College Prep Courses” while juniors will develop a calendar and timeline of college related events and seniors will participate in a College Application workshop. After those two sessions, students and families can pick the final session that they are most interested in: Advantages of Attending a Community College, Advantages of Attending a Small/Private University and Advantages of Attending a Large/Public University. These sessions are facilitated by college admissions representatives and are conducted in both English and Spanish. Don’t miss out on this valuable learning opportunity.
